chakra yoga is a profound practice of personal transformation. specific asanas, performed with special breathing, can help us correct imbalances in the chakra system and create more harmony between the chakras. why focus the yoga practice on the chakras?

because chakras are the key to our emotional well-being and spiritual elevation.
chakras are physical, psycho-emotional and spiritual centers which emanate from the spine and correspond with aspects of the lymphatic, hormonal and nervous systems. “chakra” is a sanskrit word which means “wheel.” the ancient yogis identified seven main chakras and realized that when they could control their chakras, they could find mental/emotional balance and inner peace.


understanding the functioning of the chakras and using yoga to harmonize them will help you overcome challenging postural, emotional and thought patterns. the yogis perceived that the roots of specific mental/emotional tendencies are located in different areas of different chakras. they mapped these tendencies and represented them with the petals of lotus flowers. understanding this “map” can help you understand your energetic anatomy and the roots of emotional imbalances.


using a specific style of asanas along with mudras, meditation and visualizations, you can harmonize your chakras, release blockages and holdings that no longer serve you, and create an openness to greater self-awareness and inner peace.

covered in a chakra yoga workshop include:

• what are chakras and why do i need to understand them?
• what can i do to harmonize my chakras?
• how do yoga postures affect the chakras?
• which postures should i use for which chakras?
• how does the tantric yoga chakra model differ from other ways of understanding the chakras?
in a chakra yoga workshop you will:
• look at the tantra yogic understanding of the chakras including the relevance of the different lotus flowers.
• look at postural patterns and mental/emotional challenges in relation to chakra imbalances.
• overview yoga cosmology and how the human chakra system is a microcosm of the evolution of the universe.
• explore specific therapeutic applications (both physical and mental/emotional) of yoga postures to each chakra using ananda marga, viniyoga and flow yoga asanas.
• learn mudras, visualizations and meditation focused on harmonizing the chakras
