embark upon the inward journey.
embrace your inner wisdom.
share the experience.

the subtle yoga teacher training program is a unique opportunity for sustained immersion in the ancient art of yoga which will lead you to nothing short of profound personal transformation. whether you are an experienced teacher, an aspiring teacher, or simply dedicated to your practice, the subtle yoga approach to training will provide you with a unique structure in which to experience the vastness of yoga.

traditionally, revered yoga instructors were those who taught by example – their lives were an embodiment of the principles of yoga – wisdom, clarity, intuition, serenity, courage and a commitment to service. the subtle yoga teacher training program offers you the opportunity to become this kind of teacher – to exemplify and to learn to share yoga with others from the deepest part of your being, as it was originally intended.

the world needs yoga teachers who possess a deep self-knowledge and radiate a commitment to service. during subtle yoga teacher training you will unveil the depths of your spirit in order to authentically hold and transmit this ancient wisdom tradition.

upon completion you will be eligible to register with yoga alliance as a ryt 200.

what is subtle yoga?

“subtle” is the english equivalent of the sanskrit word “sattva” which is one of the three qualities that guide all movement in the universe (the other two being “rajas” or dynamic and “tamas” or static). while much of what is practiced in america today is “rajasic” yoga, with a primary focus on the mechanics of the gross body, subtle yoga emphasizes connecting not only to the physical body but also to the deeper layers of the self and imbuing the practice with increasing inner awareness. subtle yoga is not the same thing as gentle yoga.

subtle yoga focuses on deepening awareness when learning and practicing yoga. here, the quality of awareness brought to the practice is as important as learning the techniques. subtle yoga is about going beyond instinctual and intellectual ways of knowing about yoga in order to understand and practice from a deeper part of the self. the experience of yoga broadens when one taps into more subtle capacities of mind, such as intuition and surrender. subtle yoga is about approaching the deepest part of yourself and allowing that inner wisdom and knowing to overflow from your practice into your daily life.

in this course you will immerse yourself in the traditional practices of yoga over a period of 10 months. the class will meet one weekend a month. you will learn how to teach asanas safely and effectively and you will gain a thorough understanding of the anatomy and alignment of each pose.

this teacher training will be explored in the spirit of pariprashnena – the practice of refining the questions. morning sessions will explore the ancient wisdom of yoga. in the afternoon, you will learn the skills necessary to teach good yoga classes.

asanas and more. . .

the asanas you will learn to teach will emerge organically as the physical expression of what we are learning, and as the vehicle for processing the information and embodying it. additionally you will learn to teach meditations and mantras in relation to the weekend themes. each day of training will include kiirtan (chanting) and meditation. this training includes essential theory and practice of tantric yoga including yoga postures to balance the chakras, mudras, meditation, yoga psychology, breath awareness, energy flows and self-massage.
